SYSTER Gastronomy is about collaboration, professional pride, Sámi and local food, traditions, exchange of experience, and mobility. The goal of the SYSTER project is to strengthen education about local and Sámi food culture in primary schools, through school meals and the subject of food and health/home economics. Together with schools in 8 municipalities in Jämtland and Trøndelag, the project aims to define what is needed to achieve this and to develop a practical toolbox, which will also be tested in a pilot within the project. The work includes exchange between the two countries, based on the regions’ strong ambitions in the field of food and a desire to strengthen local food culture and Sámi food identity. In Sweden, there are well-functioning school kitchens, while in Norway, new ones are being built - offering great opportunities for exchange and cooperation. Norway, in turn, has well-developed teaching in food and health, which brings relevant cross-regional added value.
SYSTER is part of the Interreg Sweden–Norway programme — a bilateral collaboration between counties along the Norwegian–Swedish border. All Interreg projects must include at least one Swedish and one Norwegian project partner.
Oi! Trøndersk Mat og Drikke AS is the Norwegian project owner.

The vision of the Interreg Sweden-Norway 2021–2027 programme is: "A sustainable development and transition in an attractive cross-border region without border barriers." The programme spans from dynamic metropolitan areas to more sparsely populated mountain regions in the north, and is divided into two sub-areas: the Green Belt of the North and Central Scandinavia.
